Project Overview

Sealevel Construction has been awarded the general contract for Phase 2 of the $320 million HNC Lock Complex. Once completed, the complex will span 110 feet in width and extend 800 feet in length. Featuring sector gates, it will be situated directly next to the existing 250-foot-wide Bubba Dove barge floodgate. The HNC Lock Complex will provide navigation when the adjacent Bubba Dove Floodgate is closed for high water events. The new system will close one of the last remaining gaps in the Morganza to the Gulf Hurricane Protection System and will involve constructing the Inland and Gulf-side sector gates, as well as the lock chamber. Construction also includes the development of an operations area, a control building, and a 175-foot access bridge to the control building. With construction beginning in the fall of 2024, its scope of work is comprised of the following:

  • Installation of sheet piles using Silent Piler
  • Placement of 60,000+ cy of concrete for various structures
  • Fabrication and installation of all structural steel components and templates
  • Hydraulic dredging of 862,000 cy of material
  • Installation of 1,000 pipe piles and 1,000  concrete piles of various sizes
